Public Hearing for Bruce A and B relicensing

Located in Kincardine, Ontario, Bruce A and B Nuclear Generating Stations consist of eight nuclear reactors designed to produce electrical power.

With the operating licences for these reactors set to expire on May 31, 2015, Bruce Power has applied to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to renew them for a period of five years.

A two-part public hearing has been scheduled, with Part 1 of the hearing taking place at the CNSC headquarters in Ottawa on February 5, and Part 2 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Kincardine on April 14, 15 and 16.

Both parts will be webcast live.

Register to participate

The public, Aboriginal groups and other stakeholders are invited to participate in the relicensing process, and up to $75,000 has been made available to enable this participation through the CNSC’s Participant Funding Program.

Members of the public who wish to comment on Bruce Power’s application at Part 2 of the hearing in Kincardine must file their requests with the Commission Secretary by March 16.

CNSC experts will be in Kincardine on March 3 for two Meet the Nuclear Regulator information sessions.

Meet the Nuclear Regulator sessions introduce you to the CNSC and its work to ensure that Canadian nuclear facilities and activities are safe. At these sessions, you will also learn how you can participate in the licensing process.

You can register for an afternoon session from 2 to 4 p.m. or an evening session from 6 to 8 p.m.
