Participant funding for Cameco Corporation's Beaverlodge Project licence renewal

This participant funding offering is open from September 12 to October 14, 2022.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will conduct a hearing based on written submissions to consider a 2-year licence renewal application from Cameco Corporation (Cameco) for the Beaverlodge Project, anticipated to be February 2023. In its licence renewal application, Cameco is seeking approval to continue the same activities the current licence authorizes, with no changes to the existing terms and conditions. The facility is located near Uranium City in northern Saskatchewan and is situated within historic Treaty 8 (1899) territory, the Homeland of the Métis, and is within the traditional territories of the Dene, Cree, and Métis peoples.

The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public, and stakeholders in reviewing Cameco’s application and associated documents, and in participating in the Commission hearing process by providing topic-specific written interventions to the Commission for this hearing in writing.

Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation, including CNSC staff’s documents and Cameco’s Commission member documents, and for the submission of a written intervention to the Commission. In order to be eligible for funding, applications must focus exclusively on Cameco’s proposed 2-year licence renewal.

To apply, please submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. You can submit the form by:

  • Email: pfp@cnsc-ccsn.gc.ca
  • Mail: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
