Participant funding for Best Theratronics Limited’s Class IB Nuclear Substance Processing Facility Operating Licence renewal will be open from November 13, 2018 to January 25, 2019.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous peoples, members of the public and stakeholders in the review of the licence renewal application and the Commission hearing process for the Class IB Nuclear Substance Processing Facility Operating Licence renewal application by Best Theratronics Ltd. (BTL).
The CNSC will hold a one-part public hearing on May 16, 2019 to consider an application from BTL to renew its Class IB Nuclear Substance Processing Facility Operating Licence for a period of 10 years. The current licence expires on June 30, 2019. The BTL facility is located in Kanata, Ontario.
A total of $35,000 in participant funding is being offered for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation – including CNSC staff’s documents and BTL’s Commission member documents – and for participation in the public Commission hearing.

The deadline to submit a participant funding application is January 25, 2019. Please note that late or incomplete funding applications will not be considered.
A funding review committee, independent of the CNSC, will consider all applications for funding and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.
The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment; to implement Canada’s international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public.
