Expertise and education

Sean holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of New Brunswick. His academic experience included a focus on the development of modern technology and aligns well with his role at the CNSC. Sean also has experience working in other energy sectors, specifically with wind and solar technologies.

Roles and responsibilities

Sean’s focus is the licensing of new reactors, with an emphasis on overall safety and nuclear regulation. He is part of a team that reviews the CNSC’s regulatory framework to determine how it applies to all types of power reactors, including small modular reactors (SMRs). His portfolio includes work related to proposed reactor projects in New Brunswick.

Sean has also worked on several pre-licensing vendor design reviews of nuclear facilities – this is an optional service that enables CNSC staff to provide early feedback on the design of a proposed nuclear power plant.
