Administrative monetary penalty issued to Catalyst Paper Corporation
The CNSC has issued an administrative monetary penalty (AMP) of $2,000 to Catalyst Paper Corporation.
As a result of inadequate control procedures, the shutters of 2 radiation devices were left open while 8 workers were working inside an enclosed area at the licensee’s site. Radiation measurements taken following this incident indicated that the highest exposure to the workers was negligible.
Licence conditions require Catalyst Paper Corporation to ensure that every radiation device is shielded and verified to be safe for a person to enter the enclosed area. These steps must be taken prior to any worker entry.
The CNSC requires proper use and procedures of radiation devices in order to protect the health and safety of workers, the public and the environment.
