Administrative monetary penalty issued to Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc.

On June 18, 2024, the CNSC issued an administrative monetary penalty (AMP) of $1,000 to Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc. The company holds a CNSC licence for the possession, transfer, import, use and storage of fixed nuclear gauges.

The AMP was issued following an event reported by the licensee in which 2 workers entered a vessel equipped with a fixed nuclear gauge without properly ensuring that the gauge had been made safe.

Licence conditions require Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc. to ensure that every radiation device is shielded and verified to be safe for a person to enter the enclosed area. These steps must be taken prior to any worker entry.

This AMP is being issued to Thompson Creek Metals Company Inc. to promote compliance and to deter reoccurrence.
