Webinar: Imports, Exports, Safeguards Regulations Project: Consultation Results
Join us on November 21, 2024, for a webinar on the consultation results of the Imports, Exports, Safeguards Regulations Project.
As a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the Government of Canada has committed to implement safeguards and import-export controls through Canadian regulations.
The CNSC posted a regulatory proposal in the Canada Gazette, Part I, from March 30 to June 13, 2024 called the Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Made Under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (Import, Export and Safeguards). The goal of this proposal was to ensure that Canada meets its international obligations by:
-
amending the General Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations (GNSCR) to:
- broaden safeguards requirements
- modernize prescribed information requirements
-
amending the Nuclear Non-proliferation Import and Export Control Regulations (NNIECR) to:
- align with international control lists
- introduce licence exemptions
- enhance the licensing process
- harmonize record retention periods
This webinar will summarize the results of the consultation and outline the next steps on this project.
