Request for public comment on draft environmental assessment guidelines for the proposed decommissioning of the SLOWPOKE-2 reactor facility at Dalhousie University
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) invites public comment on the draft environmental assessment (EA) guidelines for the proposed decommissioning of the safe low power critical experiment ( SLOWPOKE-2) reactor facility located at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The proposed project involves the de-fueling of the reactor, with the fuel shipped from the reactor site for disposal, followed by the decommissioning of the facility after the de-fueling has been completed.
The project is subject to an EA under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The public is invited to comment on the draft EA guidelines, which identify key issues and studies required in the assessment to be conducted by the proponent. The public comment period closes on December 8, 2008. Interested parties should forward their written comments in the official language of their choice, via mail, e-mail or fax, to the attention of:
