October 25 – Keynote address by President Pierre Tremblay at the Canadian Nuclear Law Organization’s Nuclear Law School 2024

On October 25, 2024, Pierre Tremblay, CNSC President and CEO, delivered the keynote address at the Canadian Nuclear Law Organization’s Nuclear Law School 2024, held in Toronto, Ontario. In his remarks, he spoke about areas of focus for the CNSC and the important function the CNSC’s Legal Services team plays in supporting Canada’s nuclear regulator.

October 3 - Keynote address by President Pierre Tremblay at the 5th International Conference on Generation IV and Small Reactors

On October 3, 2024, Pierre Tremblay, CNSC President and CEO, delivered the regulatory keynote address at the 5th International Conference on Generation IV and Small Reactors, held in Ottawa, Ontario. His remarks highlighted the need for international collaboration and standardization and for industry to meet its obligations in order to ensure the safe deployment of small modular reactors around the world.

July 25 - Presentation by acting CEO Ramzi Jammal to Bruce Power’s Board of Directors

On July 25, 2024, Ramzi Jammal, acting CEO, delivered a presentation to the Bruce Power Board of Directors. Mr. Jammal spoke about Pierre Tremblay’s appointment as the new President of the CNSC as of August 12, 2024, and the recent changes to the Commission’s membership since the last meeting with the Board in 2023. Mr. Jammal highlighted the CNSC’s ongoing strategic priorities, including regulatory efficiency; large-scale new builds and small modular reactors; international engagement and collaboration, and equity, diversity and inclusion. He also gave updates on the CNSC’s progress in reviewing Bruce Power projects, emphasized the importance of ongoing Indigenous engagement and relationship building, and effective and efficient regulation. Global trends regarding nuclear energy were also discussed.

June 18 – Presentation to the Canadian Nuclear Society by Ramzi Jammal, CEO – Acting

On June 18, 2024, Ramzi Jammal, CNSC Chief Executive Officer - Acting, delivered a presentation to the 43rd Annual Canadian Nuclear Society Conference in Saskatoon, entitled ‘Maintaining Regulatory Momentum and Excellence in the Nuclear Sector’. Mr. Jammal highlighted how the CNSC has been getting ready for nuclear expansion in Canada, as nuclear continues to be a cornerstone of Canada’s energy sector. He touched upon key themes including regulatory efficiency, safe small modular reactor deployment, relationship building, international engagement and collaboration, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Mr. Jammal also discussed how the CNSC is actively exploring enhancements to the regulatory process to enable the safe deployment of nuclear technologies in the future.

March 27 – Speech by acting CEO Ramzi Jammal to the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management

On March 27, 2024, CNSC acting CEO Ramzi Jammal addressed the Contracting Parties of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management as a candidate for president of the Eighth Review Meeting.

In his speech, Mr. Jammal thanked the Contracting Parties and outlined his key objectives if elected president for the 2024–27 term.

March 7 - Presentation by acting CEO Jammal to Ontario Power Generation’s Board of Directors

On March 7, 2024, Ramzi Jammal, acting CEO, delivered a presentation to the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Board of Directors. Acting CEO Jammal spoke about recent changes to Commission membership and the CNSC’s ongoing strategic priorities, including regulatory efficiency; small modular reactors; international engagement and collaboration; and equity, diversity, and inclusion. He gave updates on the CNSC’s progress in reviewing OPG projects, as well as on effective and efficient regulation, the importance of ongoing Indigenous engagement and relationship building, and global trends.
