CNSC Response to Fall 2016 Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development on the inspection of nuclear power plants

March 31, 2017

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has completed its corrective action plan to respond to the auditor's recommendations in the Fall 2016 Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development on the inspection of nuclear power plants. As of March 31, 2017, all five recommendations have been actioned and are complete, as committed.

The recommendations focused on improving the documentation of the nuclear power plant (NPP) site inspection program. Through improved documentation, the CNSC can clearly demonstrate the strength of its planning process and achieve greater consistency in the conduct of NPP site inspections.

The audit, which was released October 4, 2016, looked at CNSC's processes for planning and completing compliance site inspections at NPPs; the allocation of resources to support the inspection program; and application of enforcement measures to correct non-compliance.
