Gender-based analysis plus
Section 1: Institutional GBA plus Capacity
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will continue to integrate gender-based analysis plus (GBA plus) into its work related to areas where the Government of Canada has established requirements for GBA plus. These areas are:
- The development, implementation and review of regulations.
- The conduct of evaluations.
- The development of cabinet proposals (such as Treasury Board submissions and memoranda to Cabinet).
The CNSC may expand the application of GBA plus beyond the mandated areas to other activities where the application of GBA plus would be beneficial. For example, in 2020–21, the CNSC undertook a GBA plus of its efforts to support employees working from home and in its plans for an eventual return to the workplace. Through surveys and focus groups, the CNSC was able to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement. The findings of the GBA plus will inform the CNSC’s plans to reimagine its workplace so as to leverage remote work in the long term in a way that is accessible, equitable and inclusive.
Building on the progress made last year in developing the CNSC’s GBA plus governance model, GBA plus co-champions were appointed and a formal governance structure was established. Additionally, in 2020–21, the CNSC participated in its first GBA plus Awareness Week. The CNSC’s GBA plus Responsibility Centre promoted GBA Plus training opportunities and tools, and hosted an information session with a GBA Plus expert that was open to all employees.
