Plain-language summary – Radionuclide Information Booklet

Last updated: November 2024

The Radionuclide Information Booklet provides practical information for radiation protection specialists at facilities licensed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). It contains information pages for radionuclides commonly used in the medical, research and industrial sectors.

This booklet presents information on several radionuclides. Radionuclides are presented individually on 1-page information sheets that are organized by atomic number and that include information on:

  • radiation characteristics
  • external and internal dose constants and coefficients
  • clearance and exemption quantities
  • radiation detection methods
  • safety precautions

These sheets may be posted at CNSC-licensed facilities as a convenient, quick source of information. This booklet does not replace CNSC regulatory requirements outlined in a CNSC licence, the Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Regulations or the Radiation Protection Regulations.

As this booklet is periodically updated, please ensure that you have an up-to-date version listed on the Government of Canada’s Open Government portal. If you have suggestions for additional content, including information on other radionuclides, send your comments to the CNSC.
