Abstract

The presentation first introduces the maintenance regulatory requirements and oversight strategy for Canadian nuclear power plants, including the reliability program for Canadian nuclear power plants and its relationship with maintenance requirements. A comparison is then made to reveal the similarities and differences between the US NRC Maintenance Rule and the CNSC maintenance regulatory requirements. Next, the presentation discusses the challenges currently faced by both the Canadian nuclear industry and the CNSC. The possible improvements through incorporation of the strengths of the Maintenance Rule are proposed and discussed at the end of the presentation.
