Abstract:
This presentation outlines the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s approach to regulating the fitness for duty of workers at Canada’s high-security nuclear facilities, including nuclear power plants. Although the full range of factors that affect fitness for duty will be addressed, emphasis will be placed on alcohol and drug impairment and the recently published REGDOC-2.2.4, Fitness for Duty, Volume II: Managing Alcohol and Drug Use. The presentation addresses both the content of the document and the process for developing it, including key considerations such as balancing human and privacy rights and public safety.
