and Management for Non-Water-Cooled Reactors
October 14-17, 2024

Abstract:
CNSC expectations for the performance of safety and severe accident analyses apply to all Nuclear Power Plants (NPP)s including various non-water-cooled reactors.
Safety assessments include the understanding of severe accident-related phenomena, accident progression, sequences/scenarios, the use of computer codes for severe accident analyses and the estimation of source term. The presentation outlines also how severe accidents are handled in the Defence in Depth concept and how they are linked to accident management, in the Canadian regulation.
In this presentation some outcomes will be shared from the experience gained within the Vendor Design Review (VDR) process for non-water-cooled reactors. This will support a productive discussion on various safety issues that analysts may experience during the assessment of non-water-cooled reactors.
