Abstract:

The presentation provides an overview of the main activities conducted in 2023-2024 in support to research in the severe accidents’ domain. The review of the rules for DEC - A analyses was one of these activities. This study was carried out with the collaboration of certain international organizations and outcomes from this work highlighted the need for the development of clear criteria to distinguish between DEC-A and DEC-B as well as the need for clear statements regarding expectations from containment, under DEC conditions. The presentation also underlines some CNSC's contributions to the IAEA's TECODCs. For example, the TECDOC on the safety assessment of nuclear installations against combinations of risks induced by external events and the TECODC on the safety considerations for HTGR and MSR.

The presentation briefly describes the SMR readiness strategy and presents some projects that are underway, such as the DNNP as well as the GFP and ARC-100 projects. Additionally, the presentation highlights certain projects performed as part of the collaboration with the USNRC and the UK ONR.
