Participant Funding Program decision – Meeting with Kebaowek First Nation to discuss the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2022 and the Chalk River Labs mid-term update

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has offered funding through its Participant Funding Program (PFP) to support Kebaowek First Nation (KFN) in meeting with CNSC staff to discuss the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2022 and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ mid-term update on the Chalk River Laboratories site, and to support KFN’s participation in the public Commission meeting.

Background

The CNSC made participant funding available to:

• enhance Indigenous and public participation in the CNSC’s environmental assessment and licensing processes
• help Indigenous Nations and communities, the public and interested parties bring valuable information to the Commission

A funding review committee (FRC) was established to review the funding application received by the CNSC’s PFP administrator and to make recommendations on the allocation of funding to the applicant.

On September 19, 2023, the FRC met to review the PFP application received, requesting a total of $25,212.

CNSC participant funding decision

The CNSC carefully considered the FRC’s recommendations on the allocation of participant funding and approved the reimbursement of up to $25,212 to the following recipient:
