Participant funding for the McMaster University nuclear reactor research licence renewal application

This participant funding opportunity is open from August 14 to October 2, 2023.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will conduct a hearing based on written submissions in spring 2024. The hearing is to consider an application from McMaster University to renew its McMaster Nuclear Reactor Class IA non-power reactor operating licence for a period of 20 years. The McMaster Nuclear Reactor is located on the McMaster University campus, in Hamilton, Ontario, on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishnaabe Nations.

The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing McMaster University’s application and other associated documents, and in participating in the Commission hearing process by providing topic-specific written interventions to the Commission for this hearing in writing.

Up to $15,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation, including CNSC staff’s documents and McMaster University’s Commission member documents, and for the submission of a written intervention to the Commission.

To apply, please submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. You can submit the form by:
