Participant funding for Cameco Corporation’s application to revoke the current licence and release the Beaverlodge properties to the Institutional Control Program
This participant funding opportunity is open from April 8 to June 21, 2024.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will hold a public hearing on January 29 2025, to consider an application from Cameco Corporation (Cameco) for the release of the final set of decommissioned Beaverlodge mine and mill site properties from CNSC licensing for acceptance into Saskatchewan’s Institutional Control Program, resulting in the revocation of its waste facility operating licence for the decommissioned Beaverlodge mine and mill site. The Beaverlodge site is located near Uranium City in northern Saskatchewan and is situated within historic Treaty 8 (1899) territory, and the Homeland of the Métis, and is within the traditional territories of the Dene, Cree, and Métis peoples.
The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public, and interested parties in reviewing Cameco’s licence revocation documents, and in participating in the Commission hearing process by providing written and oral interventions to the Commission. Additional details about the public hearing will be issued at a later date.
Up to $100,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation, including CNSC staff’s documents and Cameco’s Commission member documents, and for participation in the public Commission hearing.
