Participant funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2023
This participant funding opportunity is open from May 6 to June 10, 2024.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties in reviewing CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2023 (NPGS ROR) and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, Indigenous intervenors may make oral presentations if interested. The nuclear power generating sites covered by the report are in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities.
On December 10, 2024, the CNSC will hold a public meeting at which CNSC staff will present the NPGS ROR to the Commission. The NPGS ROR will provide CNSC staff's assessment of the 2023 safety performance of Canadian nuclear power generating sites, consisting of nuclear power plants and associated waste management facilities:
- Darlington Nuclear Generating Station (including the Tritium Removal Facility)
- Darlington Waste Management Facility
- Pickering Nuclear Generating Station
- Pickering Waste Management Facility
- Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (including the Solid Radioactive Waste Management Facility)
- Bruce A and Bruce B nuclear generating stations
- Western Waste Management Facility (including Radioactive Waste Operations Site 1)
- Gentilly-2 Facilities
Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will provide the Commission with information on topics directly related to the NPGS ROR and/or to the safety performance at CNSC‑licensed nuclear power generating sites in 2023. Such topics could include engagement activities with CNSC staff and licensees.
