Participant Funding Program decision – École Polytechnique de Montréal's application to renew SLOWPOKE-2 licence
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced on June 13, 2022 that it was offering a total of $15,000 under its Participant Funding Program (PFP). This funding was to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public, and stakeholders to participate in the Commission hearing for École Polytechnique de Montréal’s application to renew its SLOWPOKE-2 licence.
Background
Participant funding was made available by the CNSC:
- for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information to the CNSC through informed and topic-specific interventions
- to assist interested parties to participate in the licence application review and the Commission’s public hearing process
A Funding Review Committee (FRC), independent from the CNSC, was established to review the funding application received by the CNSC’s PFP administrator, and to make recommendations on the allocation of up to $15,000 for eligible applicants.
The FRC members were:
- Mr. Steve Burgess, retired director, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
- Mr. Yves Leboeuf, retired vice-president of operations, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
On August 24, 2022, the FRC met to review 1 PFP application received by the CNSC.
