Participant Funding Program decision – Scope of the environmental assessment for Global First Power's Micro Modular Reactor Project
The CNSC announced on January 27, 2020 it was offering a total of $20,000 through its Participant Funding Program (PFP). This funding is to assist Indigenous peoples, members of the public and stakeholders reviewing CNSC staff’s submission and associated documents.
Background
Participant funding was made available by the CNSC:
- for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information to the CNSC through informed and topic-specific interventions
- to assist interested parties in the review of CNSC staff’s submission and associated documents concerning the scope of the environmental assessment for the Global First Power Micro Modular Reactor Project
A funding review committee (FRC), independent of the CNSC, was established to review the funding applications received and to make recommendations on allocating up to $20,000 to eligible applicants.
The Committee members were:
- Paul Scott, retired regional director of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, Vancouver office
- Steve Burgess, retired director of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
- Bruce Young, retired director of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
On February 14, 2020, the FRC met and reviewed five PFP applications received by the CNSC, requesting a total of $70,190.
