Participant funding for Cameco Corporation's waste facility operating licence amendment for the Beaverlodge Project
Participant funding for the Cameco Corporation (Cameco) waste facility operating licence (WFOL) amendment for the Beaverlodge Project will be open from March 25 to May 24, 2019.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous peoples, members of the public and stakeholders in the review of the licence amendment application and their participation in the Commission hearing process for Cameco's Beaverlodge Project through the submission of written comments to the Commission. In addition, the CNSC will give Indigenous intervenors the opportunity to make oral presentations in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge.
The CNSC will hold a one-part public hearing (PDF 76 Kb) on October 2 or 3, 2019 to consider an application from Cameco to amend its WFOL to allow for the removal of 20 properties from its CNSC licence for the Beaverlodge Project and enable those properties requiring institutional control to be accepted into the Province of Saskatchewan's Institutional Control Program (ICP). The Beaverlodge Project is located near Uranium City in northern Saskatchewan.
Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission.

The deadline for submitting a participant funding application is May 24, 2019.
A funding review committee that is independent of the CNSC will consider all applications for funding and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.
